Creativity Challenge 48

While briefly scanning Gary Davis's book: CREATIVITY IS FOREVER this week's challenge came to mind.

In the early 90s Merry (wife) and I co-lead sessions at CPSI each summer on the use of storytelling and stories in the Creative Problem Solving Process and in Idea Generation. This week's Challenge is based on one of the techniques we created for examing problems.

A. Take a few minutes to visit your child's library, your library the children's section of your library (perhaps via the internet) and develop a list of 12 of your favorite children's stories, fables, myths, tales (tall to short).

B. List the people involved in your problem. Describe the scene of your problem. List the desired outcome(s).

C. Randomly pick one story at a time from your list and translate your problem into that story, fable, myth...

If you chose The Wizard of OZ....

Who in your problem would be the Wizard, Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Lion, The Strawman, Wicked Witch of the East? What/where is OZ in your problem?

D. As the author of your problem/story, rewrite the story however you choose. How would you change it? How would the outcome be different?
