Eclecticism as a Creativity ToolCreativity Challenge 1998 #44A message thread on one of the threads this morning about Eclecticism sparked this CC. I believe my creativeness, creativity and creative thinking abilities grew as a child because I had been in all 48 continental states in the U.S. and 4 provinces of Canada and northern Mexico before the age of 17. Each summer my parents took vacations to different parts of the country. I also believe my c/c/ct abilities stayed alive in me because I tended to meet people easily and weaved in and out of many groups/clubs never being totally attached or committed to any single one and never saw any one of them as "the" right one. The in 1977 my c/c/ct was given a tremendous boost when I spent 3 1/2 months traveling all around Europe. Each of these I believe have caused me to be extremely Eclectic. Let's use deliberate Eclecticism as a creativity sparker this week. Your challenge is to spend a 1/2 hour to an hour each day this week experiencing a different culture, a different art period, a different design field, a different sport. Totally immerse (sp?) yourself in a dramatically mixed collection of experiences without any deliberate goal in mind except to simply experience things "new" and "different" to you. When you are done then spend a 1/2 hour to an hour thinking about what you might have learned about creativeness/creativity/creative thinking simply taking your eclectic journey. Have a stimulus filled, enjoyable week. Prev Page Next Page Index Page© 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 Robert Alan Black, Ph.D. CSP |
