As I woke this morning the following Creativity Challenge appeared in my mind. I hope you find it useful in developing and using your creativeness this week.
Process:
- choose an object
- think of an animal that the object reminds you of
- think about the animal and an object it reminds you of
- think of an animal that the object reminds you of
- think about the animal and an object it reminds you of
- think of an animal that the object reminds you of
- think about the animal and an object it reminds you of
- think of an animal that the object reminds you of
- think about the animal and an object it reminds you of
- think of an animal that the object reminds you of
- think about the animal and an object it reminds you of
What you will look for are spontaneous connections to rationalized ones, either way.
First example
- zipper
- zebra
- window blinds
- bat
- baseball
- giraffe
- etc.
Second Step
Is to list functions, traits, aspects of each
- zipper: closure, metal, fabric, plastic, fast
- zebra: striped, 4-legged, natural, Africa
Third Step
Connect the functions, traits, aspects of each to a challenge you are working on.
MONDAY - Begin by finding something in your house or office (object or photo or figurine of an animal)
TUESDAY - Begin by randomly choosing a letter from the alphabet
WEDNESDAY - Begin by asking someone for an object or an animal
THURSDAY - Begin by flipping open a dictionary or encyclopedia to find the first object or animal you find
FRIDAY - Turn on a radio, television or CD player and listen for the first object or animal that is mentioned.
Often we need to move away, venture away, totally leave our environments, problems in order to capture new perspectives and new ideas.
