From Thoughts to Sensory Images

Creativity Challenge 2002 #15

Last week we were practicing going from senses to ideas. This week let's reverse the Goethe process and go from ideas to sensory images.

So gather a list of 30 to 60 ideas. All different types from different industries, occupations, professions, parts of life. Then each day set yourself up somewhere for 15 to 30 minutes to just focus on one idea at a time trying to imagine some sensory images, focusing on only one sense per day. Spend 3 to 5 minutes per idea that you randomly choose each day.

While you are focusing on the chosen sense of the day, sit and imagine images that might be generated by the ideas you have randomly selected.

I.E.: flying car - Sense: smell list all the possible smells that a flying car might produce or yield.

MONDAY - FOCUS ON SIGHT

TUESDAY - FOCUS ON SOUND

WEDNESDAY - FOCUS ON TOUCH

THURSDAY - FOCUS ON SMELL

FRIDAY - FOCUS ON TASTE

Have fun and share some of your experiences with the list or me directly. Alan
