Creating More Creativeness Through Creativity

Creativity Challenge 2002 #43

When we read various books on creative thinking we find many examples of creative thinking tools that have been created to help spark idea generating on demand or instantaneously. Taking Win Wenger's idea let's combine tools to create new creative tools.

The challenge each day this week is to create new ways to create or be more creative.

Please share what you create and we'll combine them into an overall list for all those who are interested.

MONDAY
Take 15 minutes to BRAINSTORM how to be more creative or to create.

TUESDAY
Take 15 minutes to use S.C.A.M.P.E.R. to generate ways how to be more creative or to create.

S SUBSTITUTE something in an existing idea to generate a new one C COMBINE different things to generate a new ideas A ADAPT things, aspects of existing ideas to create new ones M MINIFY or MAGNIFY things, aspects of existing ideas to create new ones P PUT TO OTHER USES....put current things, processes, equipment to new uses to generate new ideas E ELIMINATE things, aspects of existing ideas or processes to create new ideas R REVERSE the order of processes or things to create new ideas

WEDNESDAY
Use FORCED RELATIONSHIPS to generate new ideas.

Choose one way you create new ideas and list all details about it. Then choose anything randomly that is unrelated to it such as a canary, a giraffe, a bumblebee and list everything you know about it. Then take items from the randomly chosen item's list to improve details of the process you listed first to generate new ways to make it more creative.

THURSDAY
CHECKLISTING

Begin by making a list of 26 different verbs: stretching, freezing, twirling, etc. Then apply those to one way you generate creative ideas to in turn generate even newer ones.

FRIDAY
IDEA GRID

Make a grid of 12 to 24 different new ways to create or generate ideas that you have produced this week. Write them along the top of the chart and down along the left hand side. Then combine them in pairs (from all 144 pairs or all 576) or perhaps more reasonably 12 randomly chosen pairs from your grid.

Creating more ways to be more creative through using ways to be creative to create new ways to be creative. Interesting concept Win.

Best wishes for a highly creative and fun week this week.

Alan
