Alan's Creativity Challenges 2003-05
Else-ing?Stretching our thinking can boost the probability we will think more creatively or discover more innovative ideas or approaches to challenges. This week practice stretching your thinking by asking yourself a series of ELSE questions, what I call "Else-ing". Each day focus on a separate of the basic question leads: What, Where, When, Why, Who or How? MONDAY - What else? Focus on a single product and alternate uses for it. TUESDAY - Where else? Focus on locations where things take place. WEDNESDAY - When else? Focus on when things happen in your life typically. THURSDAY - Who else? Focus on people in your life: home, school, work, society in general. FRIDAY - How else? Focus on how you do things. Each day take 10 to 15 minutes to experiment with stretching your thinking by asking yourself "Else?" questions and generate 6 to 12 new responses. If you notice that your daily lists are simply collections of things you normally would come up with push yourself to generate another 6 to 12 until you begin to generate completely new responses. The more we stretch our thinking the greater we increase the probability we will think more creatively. Choose to experience a creative week this week.
