Alan's Creativity Challenges 2003-32
What's in an AlphabetOne creativity boosting technique I have used for several years in many settings or situations I call "Alphabetizing". Simply I write the English Alphabet or have the group or audiencece write the English Alphabet or their own language's alphabet vertically on a blank sheet of paper. Then I write a name or word for each letter of the alphabet. For instance, one version is called "SuperHeroes" sparked by the work of Steve Grossman and Beverly Moore. With the list I then encourage people to select letters randomly and then try to think about their problem as if they were that super hero/heroine. This technique often sparks new thoughts, perspectives and laughter too. Let's practice "alphabetizing" this week each day with different alphabet lists. In each case use the alphabet of your culture or the English alphabet. MONDAY List a complete alphabet of famous people in your culture. TUESDAY List a complete alphabet of famous athletes. WEDNESDAY List a complete alphabet of fictional characters you enjoy/admire. THURSDAY List a complete alphabet of candies sold in your country. FRIDAY List a complete alphabet of tools: hand, mechanical, electric, electronic. Please share your alphabets and we'll collect them for other CC readers.
