Alans Creativity Challenges 2003-35

Walk Your Way to Creativity

Over my life I have discovered in bits and pieces many of the ways to spark
my creativity and to often force inpsiration from incubation. Reading in books
about creativity and biographies of famous creative people we can read about
the famous bath tub, thinking in showers, meditating and many other
diversions that help people open up channels to their subconscious and
spark inspiration.

This week I challenge to try one that works for me.....walking!

Each day take a 30 to 60 minute walk in a different area. If the weather is bad

in your area walk at a mall or other large enclosed space. Be sure to take
along a note book or some other way to record ideas that may jump out for
you.

MONDAY
While you are walking focus on colors. As you walk along and see a small
purple wild flower or a butterfly with purple on it search for other examples of

purple. Do this with a variety of colors from the rainbow. Simply be open to
the colors in your environment.

TUESDAY
While walking focus on shapes. Begin with simple geometric shapes: circles,
squares, rectangles, triangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons. Then focus
on varieties of shapes of the same things: leaves, trees, clouds, signs, litter
on
the street.

WEDNESDAY
While walking focus on sounds: loud, soft, familiar, unfamiliar, natural, human-
made. Challenge yourself to tell how many your recognize by the sound only.

THURSDAY
While walkiing focus on textures: smooth, rough, small to very large scale, hot,

cold.

FRIDAY
While walking strive to clear your mind of thought, meditate, today. Each time
you notice a thought happening accept it, breathe slowly and release it. Write
down meaningful thoughts and release them. Your goal is to walk without
intentional thought, simply walk, breathe.

Please share observations.

Have a great week.
