Alan's Creativity Challenges 2003-52
Creatively Using the Remains of WrappingRecently my long-time creativity expert friend Andy van Gundy sold me his Apple G-4 Tower computer to add to my collection of Apple computers. Now I have a tree full of them including: an Original Classic (strange play on words), a Mac IIsi converted from a Classic II, a PC 8550, a 1400c laptop and a G-4 laptop plus the G-4 Tower. To make sure that the G-4 Tower arrived safely Andy went to his local UPS shipping store and had them pack the computer and monitor. When the two boxes, the size of stones from the Cheops Pyramid outside of Cairo, arrived late one day I got one of the UPS to carry them inside my creativity room. From there I carried them upstairs to my office. When I opened up the first box there was an explosion of Styrofoam worms flowing onto the floor of my upstairs hallway and into my office and floating into the air. I'll leave off my expletive deletives. Today I carried 3 gigantic trash bags full of the "worms" and the bubble pack to my local UPS store. From our interchanged messages Andy recommended this CC to end the year or start off 2004. I decided to use it to end 2003. The worms and the chute device that UPS uses to pack our packages make their job so, so easy, yet they produce a mess, problems and much work for those we ship them too. This week let's work on generating ideas for better ways to pack that might lessen to eliminate as much work as possible on both ends of the shipping process. MONDAY Think up as many different things that torn Holiday wrapping might be used for other than be burned or sent to the trash dump. TUESDAY Image you have a 25 x 25 room with 6" deep of packing worms in it. How many ways can you think of for how to clean them up? WEDNESDAY Image you have 3 gigantic trash bags full of packing worms. Think of as many things you might do with them instead of simply sending them to the waste management center for eternity. THURSDAY How else might you safely pack a large monitor and tower computer without using packing worms? FRIDAY How else might we pack boxes to eliminate or lessen work and not create recycling or future storage problems? Please share your ideas. We will collet them and share the total with all those who ask for them. Have a creative week. Happy 2004. May your realities in 2004 far surpass your grandest and wildest dreams.
