One new way I have been challenging my creativity the past 15 days has been in my creating a visual page using photos from the same photo album in as many different ways to challenge me to create new layout designs.  Here are the first 15 so far. Since March I have  been to…

2012 Florida Creativity Weekend

spent 2 weeks in Brasil (Aracaju, Sao Paolo, Recife and Sao Paolo again) doing a 2-day workshop, a keynote speech at the 11th FICI Creativity Conference and a 1/2 day workshop at ABA – Language School.

Now I am preparing for 3 creativity conferences in South Africa and Namibia during 3 weeks in October, then two 2-day programs for the CWA Leadership School in late October and early November and a 2-day workshop for the SIM-Singapore Institute for Management in November.

What I haven’t been doing is cartooning everyday as I initially had planned.

Have read some more new books about creativity and several articles.

March 31st, 2012 – beginning today items are being inserted in reverse chronological order.

 

In December my plan was to challenge myself to do and learn something each day.  As you scroll down this page in reverse order you will see that though I have been reading books, articles, blogs, newsletters, messages on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media I haven’t really STUCK with this UNSTUCKING plan.
Beginning today that will change.

I recently was made aware of two books by a friend in Sydney, Australia: Charles Cave.  The books are both by Noah Scalin: writer, artists, creator.

Since the early 1970s I have been buying, reading, studying, writing books, articles, blogs, newsletters, attending and giving speeches, workshops and training programs focused on the development of THINKING, LEARNING, COMMUNICATING, and LEADING.

These two books are the latest in my collection.

Both are very colorful, fun and highly creatively original.

Motivated by Noah Scalin’s two books a month ago my plan was to pick up his challenge of

MAKING SOMETHING EVERY DAY THIS YEAR

Since then I have decided to make things as I need them not just to make things to make things.  My house is filled with things I have made or purchased or have been given as givens over the past 67 1/2 years.
My goal for 2012 is to Learn and THINK Creatively in NEW Ways every day of the year

So I have chosen this January 5th 2012 to choose a challenge or a mix of challenges, perhaps one per day of the week or per day of the month and focus on Learning and Thinking Creatively.

For several years I have been doing many different things every day:

writing articles, blogs, newsletters, emails

cartooning

designing graphics

creating ppt presentations

giving speeches about creating

thinking creative thoughts about creating

Today is January 2nd.

One thing I am focusing on MAKING in 2012 is a TRIMMER ALAN once again.
I currently weigh 214 lbs.  My goal is 155 to 165 and maintain that for the rest of my life.

How….cutting back on the size of the portions in my meals

cutting back on sweets, starches…not elimination of…cutting back

walking again as part of my daily schedule or plan

I did walk today.

I did eat smaller meals

I refrain from much sugar or starchy foods

 

Something I have thought of MAKING DAILY this year was CARTOONS.

It is now 6:33 pm and I have not drawn or thought of anything that I could translate into a funny cartoon.

When I read the daily supply of cartoons I receive from a cartoon syndicate I found some humorous but mostly sarcastic or put down humor.  I have no desire to create that.

I will try again tomorrow and will carry a sketchbook to capture what comes to mind.

Other things I will MAKE will have to do with RE-CRE8NG CP3 my virtual company that I do my creativity work through.

Today I did work on preliminary plans for a potential week-long program with a group of 30 award winning high school students from Saudi Arabia who may be traveling to Penange for the 5-day program that I and a colleague in Penang will design, plan and present this coming Summer.

Other than that I created my first FACEBOOK TIMELINE PAGE replacing my previous Facebook page.

In order to Re-Create Alan I need to do things each day in the various areas of my personal and professional life and will move me towards my chosen targets/goals.

January 3rd

read, worked on photos, shared photos with a client group who asked for them, collected info and fees from colleagues for a submittal for a program in the Summer for a group of 30 hs award winners from Saudi Arabia

no cartoons

enjoyed watching several episodes of JAG…I no longer have cable service (beginning 3rd year without).  Instead I purchased complete dvd sets of tv shows I enjoy or ask for them as presents: (Xmas, Birthday, Father’s Day).

spent many hours emailing and reading emails

Did walk for about an hour.

Still dealing with sugar cravings…stopped ice cream and candy about a week ago.

Primary health goals…eliminate drowsiness, feelings of exhaustion, trim down, drop weight

reworked some of my website..goal to make it more valuable to visitors in order to increase number of visitations and use of the site to benefit people and to reach potential clients for 2012 and beyond

It is January 5th.

My focus today was preparing for the online course I will be teaching this Winter term for students at Drexel University: Tools & Techniques for Creativity.

This evening I spoke with two new colleagues in Singapore via SKYPE about potential programs about thinking for the total school system in Singapore to help Singapore become a truly self-innovative country through the development of creative and innovative thinking in its school children.

January 19th

The last two weeks I have been working on challenges related to my second online masters degree course for Drexel University’s Goodwin College’s Creativity degree program:

Tools for Creativity

along with continually to slowly read through two books and internetting 6 to 8 hours on and off through the day from 7 am to 11 pm.

Still experiencing bouts with tiredness, exhaustion and some days taking short naps to recharge.  Made an appointment with my GP physician to check out my health related to these symptoms

Have stopped eating ice cream and candy bars or chocolate drops/chips on my dishes of ice cream at both lunch and dinner now for about 2 weeks.

Weight is slowly dropping.

First target is to drop below 200.

Then 190 in process to my target weight of 150 to 160

reading cartoons still daily, which I have been doing most of my life

no ideas for cartoons or actual drawing yet.

have made some progress in my removable and recycling efforts

checked on what can be recycled, what can be picked up and when by my trash service and what can be take to the Athens-Clarke County waste management center on the east side of the county.

enjoying watching running episodes of the COMMISH show that I watched on television during its first and second season years ago.

I enjoy watching continuous episodes of my favorite television shows to see the storylines and the development of the characters and the show.
