YOUR CREATIVE THINKING

Week 01

Flexibility

Highly creative people demonstrate a mixture of traits, habits, characteristics. Those and many more can be seen in ALL children to some degree from birth until their cultures, school systems, families, parents, friends convince them it would be better not to be.

The purpose of the 52 SETS of Exercises in my EXPLODING YOUR CREATIVITY Series are to help you recharge, restart, rejuvenate, expand and enrich your current creative thinking.

I, long ago, accepted the premise that being Creative is a choice, a choice we all can make every day.

If you choose to be more creative you will become more creative.

How creative in a particular field, profession, occupation, activity is dependent upon your amount of drive, commitment and willingness to learn or develop new skills and abilities.

Let's Get Started

Fluency
Using the premise that the greater the number of ideas we generate the greater the odds that some to many of the ideas will be more creative is true let's begin by practicing shooting for quantity of ideas.

Standard No. 2 wood pencil

List 12 possible uses for one other than as a writing or drawing instrument.

  1. pointer
  2. toy
  3. device to juggle
  4. weapon
  5. to prop open a window
  6. pole for a small flag
  7. to level a table leg
  8. to reach something longer that your arm can reach.
  9. turn on a switch with wet hands
  10. to clean out a stopped up drain
  11. to prop up flower stems
  12. start a fire

Now practice some more with other objects...

common brick, glass marble, paper clip, shipping worms.

The goal is to generate longer and longer list deliberately striving to think of unusual, unique, new,...creative uses.
